How We Score Detailing Software
Each app is scored out of 100 on eleven criteria, weighted toward what a detailer with a bay, a van or both loses money on when it is missing. The facts come only from each vendor's own website, and the site is published by Mobile Service Sync, which ranks its own app first.
Eleven Criteria and Their Weights
The three shop criteria together carry 36 of the 100 points, because they are where a hybrid detailer gets hurt: a customer who cannot say drop-off or mobile, two coatings promised one bay, a finished car nobody was told about. Routing and offline work still count, at lower weights, for the days the van goes out.
| Criterion | Weight | Why it carries that weight |
|---|---|---|
| Drop-off or mobile in one booking | 14 | A detailer with a bay and a van sells both. The customer should pick on one page, with the mobile fee added for them. |
| Bay capacity on online booking | 12 | A ceramic coating holds a bay all day. Booking that does not count bays double-books the shop. |
| Drop-off and pickup workflow | 10 | Key drops, after-hours pickup, a waiting room, a loaner, and a text when the car is ready: the shop's day runs on these. |
| Vehicle records with plate or VIN lookup | 10 | The vehicle is the job. Software that files work under a person or a property makes you retype the year, make, model and engine at every visit. |
| Online booking that respects your area and capacity | 10 | A booking from forty minutes outside your area, or at a time no van is free, is worse than no booking. |
| Route optimization | 8 | Drive time is the cost a shop with bays never pays. Putting a day's stops in order is the feature that pays for the software. |
| Technician app on iPhone and Android | 8 | The tech is in a driveway, not at a desk. The app has to carry the day: stops, navigation, inspections, payment. |
| Two-way texting | 6 | Customers answer texts. On-my-way, running-late and follow-up all live in the thread. |
| Automatic review requests | 5 | Reviews decide who gets the next call. A request that goes out on its own goes out every time. |
| Works with no signal | 5 | Parking garages, apartment lots and rural roads drop signal. A job that cannot be closed until the van finds a bar is a job that gets forgotten. |
| Published price, month to month, free trial | 12 | A small business should see the price, try it without a card and leave when it wants. Demos, quotes and annual contracts cost time and lock you in. |
How Each Cell Is Scored
Every cell gets one of six levels. A criterion on the starting plan earns its full weight, a partial, higher-plan or add-on one earns half, and anything missing or unpublished earns nothing.
| Level | Share of the weight | Means |
|---|---|---|
| Included | 100% | On the plan a detailer would start on, with nothing extra to buy. |
| Higher plan | 50% | Only on a pricier plan. The review names which plan and what it costs. |
| Add-on | 50% | Bought separately, on top of the plan. |
| Partial | 50% | Partly there: overlap limits instead of a bay count, a drop-off time with no pickup step, or texting through an account you bring yourself. |
| Not offered | 0% | The vendor's own pages say it is not offered, or say something that rules it out, such as needing an internet connection. |
| Not stated | 0% | The vendor's own site does not say. Silence earns nothing here, and it is never written up as a no. |
Questions About This Method
- Who publishes Best Detailing Software?
- Mobile Service Sync publishes Best Detailing Software, makes one of the apps it reviews, and ranks that app first. The shop criteria were picked because a detailer with a bay needs them, and Mobile Service Sync was built to meet them, so weigh the ranking with that in mind.
- Where do the facts about each app come from?
- From each vendor's own website and nowhere else: pricing pages, feature pages, help articles, terms and app store listings. Every cell on a review links to the page that settles it, and the current set was read on November 7, 2026.
- Is Mobile Service Sync held to the same rules?
- Yes. Its row uses the same six levels and the same weights, and each of its cells is a claim its own website makes. It tops the ranking because every criterion here is on its first plan.
- What if a vendor thinks a cell is wrong?
- Send the page that shows it to hello@mobileservicesync.com. The cell changes once the vendor's own material says otherwise, and the date on the review moves with it.
